Find Cheaper Auto Insurance

5 Tips to Find Cheaper Auto Insurance

Finding cheap auto insurance has never been more convenient, safe and secure than it is today. Shopping for and purchasing auto insurance online has become quite common. We have put together a quick guide that will help ensure you get the best insurance quotes and the best price and best coverage!

Tip #1

Review your current policy before you begin shopping so that you are clear on what your current coverage's are, specifically, note the following:

  • If you carry collision and/or comprehensive, know what your deductibles are currently
  • Do you currently carry additional coverage's, such as rental, Gap or Medical Payments? If so, know your coverage limits for each
  • What are your liability limits? These would be the Bodily Injury or BI and Property Damage or PD limits listed on your policy page
  • Discounts – if you are currently receiving any discounts, they will be listed on your policy or Dec page
Tip #2

We suggest you get at least 2 or 3 quotes from 2 or 3 different insurance companies. Using sites such as the one you are on is a great way to get multiple quotes – you can complete one simple form and get quotes from several different top insurance companies.

Tip #3

Compare Apples to Apples – remember to compare the same coverage's with each company when you speak with them. As you talk with a few companies, you may add or subtract coverage types so be sure that each company has an equal shot at giving you the best rates.

Tip #4

Compare Apples to Apples – remember to compare the same coverage's with each company when you speak with them. As you talk with a few companies, you may add or subtract coverage types so be sure that each company has an equal shot at giving you the best rates.

Some common discounts to ask about –

  • Good student – for either you or a child that is living at home and a licensed driver
  • Safe driver – although this is pretty self-explanatory, it's worth stating: the longer you go without an accident or ticket, the lower your rates will remain
  • Multi-policy – most insurance companies today are able to write many different types of insurance (home, motorcycle, rv, etc.) either directly or through strategic partnerships and will typically offer discounts if you bundle
  • Low miles – the fewer miles you drive the more likely you are to find a lower rate. Why? Simply put – the less you drive, the less risk you represent as if you aren’t driving your car you can’t cause an accident
Tip #5

Deductible amounts – keep them higher if you can. Typically, the higher your deductible, the lower your premium will likely be. Why? Your deductible is kind of like FIFO in accounting terms – First In, First Out! You pay your premium (First In) and if you file a claim for damages to your car, your deductible is paid first (First Out) with the balance of damages being paid by your insurance company. In effect, you’re sharing the risk with the insurance company.

We do strongly suggest you are comfortable with a higher deductible and able to pay it in the event of an accident before choosing – it will more than likely save you on your premium but you need to be prepared if you do have to pay it someday.

If you follow the 5 tips above, we are confident that your auto insurance shopping experience will be a bit less stressful and you will definitely improve your chances of finding great coverage with a great company at a great rate!
